BDA bids to raise 20K for charity

The British Dental Association (BDA) is encouraging the dental family to bid generously in an auction it is organising to raise money for two leading dental charities. The auction, which will be taking place at the 2013 British Dental Conference and Exhibition, is aiming to raise £20,000 to be split evenly between the BDA Benevolent Fund and the Bridge2Aid charities.

An array of prizes, including a Champagne City experience trip to France, a break at Raymond Blanc’s Cookery School at Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, dental equipment including an intra-oral camera and an operating light and sufficient places at dental courses to obtain a full quota of CPD for a year, will be on offer.

The auction will be held as part of the Exhibition Hall drinks reception at 6pm on Thursday 25 April at the 2013 British Dental Conference and Exhibition at ExCeL London. It will be hosted in the Demonstration theatre area.

The Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK) hosts a series of seminars at the British Dental Conference and Exhibition 2013

Leading dental professionals, including Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Imaging at Manchester University, Keith Horner, and FGDP(UK) Course Director Paula McHenry will be speaking on a variety of topics from minor oral surgery to new radiology guidelines. Each session will last between an hour and ninety minutes.

All four seminars in the FGDP Series will be taking place over Thursday 25 and Friday 26April and give delegates the opportunity to investigate some of the new developments within dentistry and recognise how to implement best practice within their own work environment.

This year’s ball for newly qualified dentists will be held at The Brewery in the heart of the City of London. The former Whitbread brewery will be completely transformed with a fire and ice theme. Enjoy a glass of bubbly in the King George III room (named after his visit in 1787) before heading to the Porter Tun for a three course dinner and entertainment.

Booking opens for 2013 British Dental Conference and Exhibition

Booking is now open for the 2013 British Dental Conference and Exhibition.

The event, which takes place from 25-27 April at ExCeL in London’s Docklands, will offer a full programme of presentations and seminars from over 50 expert speakers, with subjects ranging from advanced cosmetic procedures to caries management, law and ethics to caring for special patients.

A range of ticket options and special offers make the event excellent value. Following last year’s success, all BDA members will be entitled to a free one-day Conference Pass. And, any dentists who purchase a 2 or 3 day Conference Pass will be able to register a DCP to attend free of charge. Finally, anyone who books before 4 February 2013 will be entitled to an early booking discount.

Winner of BDTA Dental Showcase competition announced

Five-thousand attendance barrier broken in Manchester

More than 5,000 visitors were present at the 2012 British Dental Conference and Exhibition in Manchester, it has been confirmed.

The event, which took place at the Manchester Central Convention Complex between 26-28 April, saw 5,085 people pass through its doors; almost 500 more than attended the 2011 event at the same venue. More than 150 exhibitors were present to share their latest products and services with delegates and nearly 250 presenters addressed delegates. They included renowned scientist Professor Susan Greenfield, Department of Health Minister Earl Howe and a galaxy of clinical experts.

Alongside the programme of speakers and the comprehensive exhibition was a series of new developments including a Demonstration theatre and an Innovation zone. The delegate experience was also enhanced by a conference microsite that allowed visitors to book meetings with many of the exhibitors in advance.

Social highlights included a performance by Killer Queen, a leading Queen tribute band, and a glittering Golden Age of Hollywood-themed ball for Foundation Dentists.

BDA Chief Executive Peter Ward said:

“We are delighted that such large numbers of the dental family were able to come together in Manchester. This is a challenging time for dentistry in the UK at which professional togetherness is more important than ever.
